Youth Worker Strategy Session
Dear Friends,
I am invite you to a strategy session breakfast with other youth workers, Executive Directors of youth non-profits and caring Boston adults who work with our city’s most vulnerable population.
Early on in my career in youth work I joined the Youth Workers Alliance (YWA) in the South End where I worked for MYTOWN. The YWA connected me to other youth workers in my neighborhood, was a space to share events and resources, made me feel empowered, helped me get trained in multiple areas and changed my life. I was a better youth worker for my young people and it made all the difference. Today, there are other networks of which you may be a part of, but there was something unique about this youth worker led alliance because of how we built up youth workers and enhanced their ability to transform our youth and the field. Now that I am a new Executive Director of The Hawthorne Youth and Community Center (HYCC) , I understand the value for well connected, trained and supported youth workers.
I hope that you can join me to build community and discuss whether a youth worker led citywide alliance is necessary at this current juncture. Let’s gather to understand what is happening in our sector and figure out ways to better connect the dots to support or young people.
