A Call to the Helpline. The following story is just one of many. Brenda’s family was living without health insurance for years. She could barely remember the last time she and her husband had gone to the doctor for a regular check-up. When her husband was diagnosed with a heart problem, the Helpline counselor assisted them with enrolling in coverage they could afford. Doctors inserted a device into Brenda’s husband’s heart, correcting the problem. Then, about 4 months ago, Brenda gave birth to a baby boy who needed to be in the ICU on low level oxygen in the neonatal unit for several days. Now, Brenda, her husband, and their new son are home together feeling very lucky to be Massachusetts residents and to have received support from the HCFA Helpline counselors.
